Participatory Community Planning – Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre (MCNC) Redevelopment Strategy
I facilitated community engagement and strategic planning activities for the Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre with an aim to achieving its long term strategic goals of remaining viable, accessible and responding to the growing needs in the Smithfield area. High level population growth was predicted for Smithfield and it was necessary to ensure the MCNC centre was able to respond to the changing and growing needs of the community. Community Planning workshops were facilitated and consultations were undertaken with multiple stakeholders in order to produce a “Social and Community Life” report which reviewed demographics, community needs, aspirations and community resources and aimed to facilitating local government planning in order to securing the necessary evidence to advocate for the redevelopment of the centre. The MCNC subsequently was able to secure a state commitment for redevelopment funding and local government planning for new land and under went a redevelopment and expansion ensuring long term viability, community responsiveness and increased functionality.
